Seoul Viosys has successfully achieved a micro-LED display brightness of 4,000 nits using its WICOP pixel technology. This is considered the highest level in the single-chip display industry.
Seoul Viosys will showcase its WICOP Pixel solution at a separate Micro-LED booth at the ISE Exhibition Center.
WICOP Pixel Based on Innovative Features
WICOP Pixel is the world’s first full-color single-chip technology. It is wireless, package-free, and lens-free, and utilizes three (RGB) micro-LEDs stacked vertically. This technology differs significantly from existing micro-LED technologies because the three LEDs combine to emit different colors of light, acting as a single pixel. The combined colors within the pixel are displayed externally, ensuring no distortion regardless of the display’s orientation (up, down, left, or right).
WICOP Pixel’s unique stacking technology enables microchip manufacturing, reducing the number of display production steps by one-third. This also makes it easier to improve yield and reduce manufacturing costs. Its light-emitting area is also reduced to one-third of that of existing flat-panel products, expanding its business scope into AR, VR, and virtual reality.
Micro-LED Technology Optimized for Signage, Virtual Production (VP), and Automotive Exterior Displays
The WICOP Pixel, with a brightness of up to 4,000 nits, is a Micro-LED technology optimized for signage, VP, and automotive exterior displays.
Currently, outdoor displays use Mini-LEDs in standard LED packages, not Micro-LEDs. Outdoor displays require higher brightness, reaching 3,000 nits, but existing Micro-LEDs are limited to 1,000 to 2,000 nits. The WICOP Pixel, on the other hand, boasts a brightness of 4,000 nits and delivers consistent color regardless of orientation. Seoul Viosys began mass production of Micro-LED signage in the first half of 2020 and plans to mass produce a new product for VP in the first quarter of this year.

Seoul Viosys was the only component manufacturer to receive the CES 2023 Display Innovation Award for its WICOP Pixel, an advanced single-chip Micro-LED display technology that eliminates the need for wire bonding and packaging.
