Description
The SOLERIQ ® S is OSRAM Opto Semiconductors’ state-of-the-art easy to use Chip-on-Board (CoB) family. Different product versions are offered according to the operating power and the diameter of the light emitting surface (LES), covering the luminous flux range from hundreds to several thousands lumen and thus enabling uniform illumination without multi shadows.
This application note provides recommendations on handling and mounting of the CoBs with respect to the thermal management, the electrical connection and the use of accessories such as connectors and optics.
The SOLERIQ® S family is specifically designed for applications requiring large luminous packages out of a single light source. This enables compact luminaire design, perfectly suitable for general lighting – especially for spotlight solutions – in commercial application fields as well as for residential use and outdoor lighting.

Product family
The SOLERIQ® S family is specifically designed for applications requiring large flux packages out of a compact light emitting area. With a comprehensive list of accessories ranging from connectors to lenses and reflectors, the SOLERIQ® S family is easy to use for lighting manufacturers and comes with options for the light emitting surface (LES) of ø 19.0 mm, ø 14.5 mm, ø 13.5 mm and ø 9.8 mm
(see Figure 1). The SOLERIQ® S platform increases the flexibility for various designs.
Multiple LED chips are mounted on a metal core printed circuit board (MC-PCB). The chips are connected with wire bonds and covered with silicone resin, containing phosphorescent, within the white silicone ring to form the light emitting surface. Two solder pads for electrical connection are located at the corners of the product diagonally. An electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection chip is mounted under the silicone dam to prevent functional failure caused by ESD.
The SOLERIQ® S family offers various power classes with the same form factors and LES in order to suit different performance requirement and enable the LED interchangeability. The SOLERIQ® S family LEDs comply to the current RoHS guidelines (European Union and China) and therefore contain no lead or other hazardous substances.
