Tokushima, Japan – October 6, 2021: NICHIA Industries, the world’s largest LED manufacturer and inventor of high-brightness blue-white LEDs, has begun mass production of another new high-radiant flux UV-C LED to aid in the inactivation and sterilization of various bacteria and viruses, particularly in industrial water and air applications.

Continuing to focus on 280nm to maximize virucidal power while maintaining practical reliability, the new 6.8mm x 6.8mm (part number NC4U334BR) is one of the industry’s highest-output UV-C LEDs. Producing a typical performance of 200mW of radiant flux at an input power of 7.8W, the NC4U334BR significantly increases usable virucidal power without sacrificing lifetime-a critical balancing act successfully achieved by NICHIA.

The NC4U334BR unlocks new opportunities for industrial water and air purification, where the available radiant flux in a given space was previously limited. While mercury lamps have historically been used in these spaces, the instantaneous on/off operation of LEDs significantly reduces standby power compared to mercury lamps, which require time to reach full power.
