The innovative parallel connection function is a core highlight of the XDR-E series. Many budget power supplies do not support parallel connection, requiring higher-priced, higher-end power supplies to utilize this feature. The XDR-E series (480W, 960W) incorporates a drooping current sharing circuit, making parallel applications simpler, safer, and more efficient. The multi-unit parallel connection function allows for flexible power expansion to meet higher power demands.
The XDR-E series supports up to 4 units in parallel, with a maximum power of 3840W (based on the XDR-960E). Compared to older parallel wiring methods, the XDR-E series greatly simplifies wiring; simply shorting the PLINK on the front panel enables the parallel connection function. The following is a brief explanation of the droop current sharing function:
The XDR-E series (480W and above) has a built-in droop current sharing function, which is a control technology that automatically adjusts the output impedance to proportionally distribute the load current when multiple power modules are connected in parallel. Its core principle is to actively adjust the power supply’s output voltage, causing it to decrease slightly as the output current increases, thus achieving automatic load balancing among the parallel units.
The XDR-E series uses an internal current detection circuit to monitor its own output current in real time. When the parallel function is enabled, the XDR-E series converts the output current signal into a voltage signal to adjust the reference voltage, changing the power supply’s output characteristics. When the output current increases, the output voltage decreases accordingly.
For example, when two XDR-E units are connected in parallel, if the output voltage of one power supply A decreases, the load will be more borne by the other power supply B, which has a higher output voltage. Due to the droop current sharing characteristic, the output voltage of power supply B will also decrease, thus reducing the load it bears. Through this dynamic balancing adjustment, the effect of current equalization is ultimately achieved.
The XDR-E series adopts a drooping current equalization parallel connection method, which has a simple architecture, requires no additional parallel connection cables, has lower costs in actual installation, and is easier to expand.
