The new LUXEON HL4X provides a light source for ultra-high luminous flux output lighting applications and improves system luminous efficacy.

Lumileds’ latest high-power LED uses a familiar 3535 package to share existing optics, enabling simple and rapid performance upgrades.

Lumileds introduces the LUXEON HL4X, the lighting industry’s highest-power LED in terms of luminous flux output and luminous efficacy. It facilitates standardized design by lighting manufacturers around a shared package substrate specification and proves that meaningful improvements in LED luminous efficacy are still possible. The LUXEON HL4X is designed for outdoor and industrial applications, such as stadium lights, streetlights, and high-bay luminaires where high luminous flux density, luminous efficacy, stability, and light quality are critical, as well as flashlights and rugged portable devices. Regardless of the application or environment, its high-power dome package delivers ultra-high luminous flux output, excellent luminous efficacy, color stability, and lifespan.

With its 4mm² chip, the LUXEON HL4X delivers a typical light output of 680 lm at 700mA and a typical luminous efficacy exceeding 168 lm/W, providing a simple and seamless upgrade for virtually any existing application using a similar 3535 package. Engineers have also carefully managed the optical design to ensure compatibility with other existing optics based on 3535 solutions.

Large thermal pads allow for high drive currents and close placement of LEDs. “The characteristics of the LUXEON HL4X make it ideal for high-lumen applications such as industrial and stadium lighting,” said Noman Rangwala, Head of Product Marketing and Management (L1) at Lumileds. “In any case, its optical compatibility with a wide range of existing 3535 optics allows for the direct replacement of lower-performance LEDs while improving system efficiency by 10 lm/W or more.
