Lumileds has released 36V options for its LUXEON 2835 Color Line mid-power LEDs, widely used in architectural lighting and smart bulbs, and for its LUXEON 7070 High Power LEDs, serving applications from spotlighting to outdoor and industrial lighting. These options are available through its distribution network. The new products maintain similar levels of LED form factor, light output, and luminous efficacy maintenance to the lower voltage options while reducing current requirements.

In color-changing applications such as smart bulbs or ambient lighting solutions, engineers can choose lower-cost linear drivers; this allows users to realize their vision. Linear drivers are often cheaper because they use fewer components. Furthermore, they can be mounted on an MCPCB along with the LEDs, eliminating the need for additional driver boards and freeing up space in compact solutions like LED bulbs.

Lumileds 36V Color Line and High Power LEDs offer significantly superior luminous efficacy compared to high-density CoBs with 6mm and 9mm emitting surface diameters. This makes LUXEON 7070 High Power LEDs an exciting alternative to typical CoBs in many spotlighting and general lighting applications where light output and luminous efficacy requirements can be met with a single High Power LED. While the choice of compatible drivers is limited for most High Power LEDs, a wide range of drivers are available at 36V, within the typical voltage range of CoBs, making LUXEON 7070 High Power LEDs more cost-effective, more widely applicable, and offering better overall system efficiency. Compared to the 12mm x 15mm package size of a 6mm LES CoB and the 16mm x 19mm package size of a 9mm LES CoB, the LUXEON 7070 package has a much smaller 7.0mm² package size.
