The new LED package optimizes energy performance, helping electric vehicles extend their driving range.
As the electric vehicle market continues to expand, maximizing battery performance has become crucial. To meet the demands for reduced battery consumption and improved vehicle efficiency, the market demand for energy-efficient LEDs has increased significantly.
Samsung Electronics’ third-generation (Gen3) C-Series LEDs include six high-power LED packages specifically designed for future electric vehicles. The new Gen3 C-Series boasts industry-leading luminous efficacy, high luminous flux, and high brightness, significantly reducing energy consumption, making it particularly suitable for electric vehicles.
“As energy efficiency becomes increasingly important in electric vehicles and the entire automotive industry, the market demand for energy-efficient LED products will inevitably grow further,” said Kim Yoon-soo, Senior Vice President of Samsung Electronics’ LED Business Division. “We will continue to introduce innovative LED technologies to meet the evolving technological trends in the automotive sector, including electrification, autonomous driving, and connectivity.”
Compared to traditional high-power LEDs, the third-generation C-Series LEDs achieve the same lighting performance with fewer LED chips. Furthermore, with the same number of chips, it can reduce drive current by more than 10% and simplify the heat dissipation structure by more than 20%, resulting in more energy-efficient and lighter lighting fixtures.
From a design perspective, thinner lighting fixtures offer greater design flexibility for electric vehicles, allowing for more personalized appearances and better showcasing their brand image.
To maximize luminous efficacy and light quality, the C-series Gen3 LEDs utilize advanced phosphor technology to achieve more uniform light distribution while improving luminous efficiency.
The new C-series LED chips offer a variety of colors and power options, including five white (1W, 3W, 6W, 9W, 12W) and one amber (3W), making them ideal for headlight applications such as low beams, high beams, daytime running lights, and turn signals.
When applied to gasoline-powered vehicles, the C-series Gen3 LED chips also improve fuel efficiency and reduce carbon emissions from daily driving.
Samsung plans to continue developing high-efficiency LED solutions to meet the environmental standards of next-generation eco-friendly vehicles and bring greater sustainable value to more consumers. Samsung’s C-Series Gen3 LED chips have completed performance and reliability verification with global automotive lighting manufacturers and are now available to customers.
